Name of Allah Al Qaadir, Al Qadeer & Al Muqtadir (Part 10) – 15th Jan. 2012

Four foundations (bases) in dealing with this worldly life are resulted from our belief in the Qadaa’ and Qadar by its four ranks:

This worldly abode is the abode of trial with which Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) tests (tries) his creation with. He (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) tests us by making the end result hidden and unknown to us and the results from these trials comply (agree) with what Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) has already decreed.

The evidence for this is the first two verses of Surat Al Mulk:

“Blessed be the in whose hand is the dominion; and He is able to do all things”

“Who has created death and life that He may test you which of you is best indeed  {who amongst you do the good deeds in the most perfect manners, that means to do them (deeds) totally for Allah’s sake and in accordance with the legal ways of prophet Muhammad (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)}.”

We  are told repeatedly in the Qur’an that:

“Verily, we have made that which is on earth as an adornment for it, in order that we may test them (mankind) as to which of them are best in deeds.” [Al-Kahf 18:7]

Al-Bukhari recorded from Ali bin Abi Talib (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) that they (the companions) were with the messenger of Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) at the cemetery of Baqi at Gharqad for a funeral, when the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said,

“There is none among you except that his place has already been written, a seat in Paradise and a seat in the Hellfire”

They said, “O Messenger of Allah! Should we depend on this?”

He replied,

“Perform deeds for everyone will have the deeds of what he was created for (Paradise or Hell) made easy for him”

Then He (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) recited the verse:

 “As for him who gives and has Taqwa and believes in Al-Husna. We will make smooth for him the path of ease. But he who is greedy and thinks himself self-sufficient (no need of his Lord). We will make smooth for him the Path to evil” – Surat al layl (92:6-10)

Al-Bukhari also recorded another similar narration from Ali bin Abi Talib (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) in which he said, “We were at a funeral in the cemetery of Bagi Al-Ghargad when the Messenger of Allah (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) came and sat down, so we came and sat around him and he had a stick with him, then he bowed his head and he began to scratch the grown with his stick. He then said:

“There is not anyone among you or is not a single (that has been created) except that his place has been written in Paradise or in the Fire and it has been written that he will be wretched or happy”.

A man said, “O Messenger of Allah! Should we just depend on what has been written for us and give up performing deeds? For whoever of us is of the people of happiness then he will be of the people of happiness and whoever among us is of the people of misery then he will be of the people of misery”.

The Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) replied:

Those people who are the people of happiness, they will have the deeds of the people of Paradise made easy for them and those people who are the people of misery, they will have the deeds of the people of misery made easy for them”. Then he (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)  recited the verses of Surat Al-Layl (92:6-10).

Imam Ahmed (Rahimahullaah) recorded from Ibn Umar (Radia Allaahu ‘anhuma) that Umar (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) said: “O Messenger of Allah! Do you think that the deeds that we do are a matter that is already predetermined or are they something just beginning or new? The Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) replied:

“It is something that has already been predetermined. Therefore, work deeds, O son of Al-Khattab! For verily, each person will have things made easy for him. So whoever is from the people of happiness, than he will work deeds for happiness and whoever is from the people of misery, then he will work deeds for misery”.

Let us try to  understand the sentence: “.. each person will have deeds of what he was created for (paradise or Hell) made easy for him” because it  will help us to deal (correctly) with the Qadaa’ and Qadar.

Imaam Ahmed (Rahimahullaah) reported a hadith in which Abu Ad-Darada’ (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) narrated, “Each person is prepared or ready (to do deeds) which he was created for”.

For this narration, we come to know that “made easy for him” means “to be ready or prepared to do”

Preparation of the circumstances to come close to what is decreed (predetermined) for you. These circumstances either leads to Yusra or to ‘Usra.

At-Tabarani reported a hadith in which the Sahabah (companions (Radia Allaahu ‘anhum)) asked the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam): “O Messenger of Allah! Why should perform deeds (if everything is decreed and written)?” The Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Everyone is made easy for him his deeds

Now is diligence (hard work) now is diligence”.

The Companions (Radia Allaahu ‘anhum) understood from this sentence that it is required from them now (in this life) to work hard.

Also another narration, Umar (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) asked “Why do we perform deeds”? He (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “None will attain except with deeds (working)”. Then Umar (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) said: “Then we will work hard and be diligent”.

All these aforementioned Hadeeths explain the sentence:

“Each one have been made easy for him the deeds that he was created for”

Al-Khattabi (one of interpreters of hadeeths) said: “It is concluded from the hadith that one’s deeds at present (in this life) indicates his destiny at the end. Therefore, He (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) recited the verses of Surat Al-Layl in which Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala)’s reward (al-Yusra) is attained if the person “Who gives and he fears Allah in his affairs and believe in compensation for that and whoever is stingy with his wealth and consider himself to be in no need of his Lord, the majestic and disbelieves in the recompense in the abode of the Hereafter, then Allah will make easy for him the path to evil.

Al-Khattabi added: “similarly the Rizq (the provision), we are commended to seek it and earn it”.

You are told that your RIZQ has been predetermined and written. You will not find a mindful person will say “As long as my Rizq is written then I will sit here and it will come to me”. You will be blamed for this attitude.

Because Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) has decreed and written your provision and He (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) ordered you to seek it and earn it and your seeking (effort/endeavor) will be a means of attaining your Rizq.

Similarly, the destinies (fates) are written, despite of that you are allowed (even the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) ordered) with seeking the remedy and seeking the medicine for your sickness although the time of your death is written.

Also the destiny to Hell or Paradise is written like your Rizq. As you are commanded with seeking the remedy and ordered to seek the means of earning, also you are ordered with obedience. Although it is written from which party will you be.  This is Because working at the present time or your seeking indicate your destiny at the end.

So what shall we do?

As Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Perform deeds, now is diligence. Try earnestly to increase the means of reformation of your end.”

Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) has granted you gates through which you drove nearer to Him. He (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) has opened gates of goodness through which you can come closer to Him by performing good deeds which will show clearly what your end will be. Also there are gates which will drive the person away from his Lord.

Therefore, work hard to take the advantage of these opened gates to goodness. Your endeavor/effort indicates your end in the Hereafter.

Man has inborn good character and inborn bad character Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) afflicted us with bad character in order to reform it according to the Islamic law. The Shari’ah order us to reform the bad character.

We are also afflicted by the bad character in order to strive hard to overcome it with what Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) has made easy of means. Similarly the good character, we are afflicted with good character in order to benefit from it to seek nearness to Allah by them.

e.g. Those people whom Allah granted them the character of generosity.

What is required from him? To be sincere when he spends seeking Allah’s Reward, not spending out of boasting or because this is his character.

Everything around you is your way to either Hell or Paradise

Your character

Your beliefs (which you gained)

The people around you

Every action you do now is an image of your end in the Hereafter.

Your belief in Allah’s Names & Attributes:

You believe that Allah is Razzaq (provider), Is this belief firm in your heart?

Allah might  test you by withholding  your Rizq by some over or by company or by government.

Depriving you from  the Rizq is a test for your belief in Allah being Razzaq.

Bear in mind that our test is in all Allah’s Names not only one, may be my eyes focuses on one Name and in fact it is in all Allah’s Names.

You will be tested in all your beliefs

e.g. your belief in the trial of the grave:

the trial of the grave is the three questions of the angel for the dead in his grave:

  1. Who is your Lord?
  2. Who is your Prophet?
  3. What is your Religion?

Do you know that we are living in this life  this test day and night? We are tested with these three questions day and night in order to be prepared for the final exam (test) which will be in the grave.

Day and night you are tested in “Who is your Lord?”

Who is your deity whom you magnify, love most and prefer this pleasure over yourself & others?

Allah (Subhanaahu wa Ta’ala) decrees the situations to test you — will you prefer to please your children or to please your Lord?

The Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “whoever pleases Allah and displeases the people — Allah will be pleased with him and make the people to be pleased with him”.

Daily we may confront such situations:

Whoever stays firm in this life —- that much you will be kept firm in the grave when the angels ask you.

Similarly your test in “Who is your Prophet?”

In this life you are always between two attitudes:

  1. Following the Sunnah of the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)
  2. Contradicting the Sunnah of the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)
  3. Contradicting due to self-desire or innovation, etc.

All the time you are tested in your belief (in who is your Prophet?) If you believe that you will be asked in your grave this question — then you will ask yourself every time:

Does my action that I am doing agrees with the Sunnah of the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) or contradicts it?

Similarly, you are tested in “What is your Religion?”

That you are following?  What do you believe in the recompense? Because Religion is the action which one perform (whether by limbs or hearts or both) and he waits for the recompense for it.

As if all the time you are tested: what do you hope from your deeds? Do you wait for the reward from Allah or the people? Are you patient hoping the reward from Allah or to be praised?

Every aspect of faith you will be tested in.

Your belief in the angels:

This in one of the greatest pillar of faith, which many people are heedless of. Many people do not know their relation with the angels. They do not know that they are tested regarding them.

A test for your belief in their existence and their relation with you.

For example this gathering:

Hopefully, the angels are encircling it, we believe that angels encircle the assemblies of the remembrance of Allah.

  • Now ask yourself: An assembly in which Allah’s words are recited, do you see yourself honoring and respecting such assemblies. [Because your respect indicates your belief] Check your heart!!
  • You may see someone who will deal with such assemblies decisively (mockingly) (scornfully)
  • How many times we hear the mobiles ringing, music tones or talking during the lecture, this indicates lack of belief.

Belief is not just information you learn and fill your mind with. NO – you should act upon it!

May Allah make it easy for us to pass the trials of this life and to keep us firm on His religion, following the Prophet’s (Salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) way. Ameen.
