Continuation: Importance of studying the names of Allah and His attributes (Part 2). Oct 7th 2012

Al Hayyiy (The Modest):

The impact of the modesty of Allah is as the Prophet Muhammed (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) said “Allah is modest and loves modesty and concealment”

In another narration he  (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him (in supplication) He becomes shy to return them empty.”  [Ahmad, Abu Dawud #1488, at-Tirmidhi #3556, ibn Majah #3865 and others.]

When you hear this, you know that every time you ask Allah He will not let you down and will answer your request either now or on the Day of Judgment. So only the one who knows Allah is Hayiyy will keep on asking without giving up.

Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) loves modesty, so you should show shyness to Allah. Allah hates disclosure of sins and propagating evil in the community. You should take care of your modesty and not display your beauty to men because you know Allah loves modesty.

Each name of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) affects our life and actions!

As Sittir (The Concealer.):

The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) told us that “Whoever conceals the fault of his Muslim brother, Allaah will conceal his faults on the Day of Judgment. [Narrated by Ibn Maajah (2546); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb (2338)].

If you really believe that Allah loves concealing the faults of others you will conceal the faults of others because you know Allah loves concealment.

Allah will forgive everyone except those who talk openly about their sins.

These are the impacts of the name of Allah on our life. Studying the names of Allah will beautify the decrees of Allah to you. Whatever Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) decreed for you will become beautiful in your eyes and you will always feel content with Allah, no matter what Allah has decreed for you.

As-Salaam (The One Free from all defects):

When dealing with the decrees of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala), the best name you should know is As-Salaam. He is the one who is perfect and sound from all imperfections.

After every prayer you say:

اللّهُـمَّ أَنْـتَ السَّلامُ ، وَمِـنْكَ السَّلام ، تَبارَكْتَ يا ذا الجَـلالِ وَالإِكْـرام

“O Allah, You are As-Salam and from You is all peace, blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.” [Muslim 1/414]

His life is Salaam from death, sickness, and  need to sleep. He is free of all deficiencies. His Qayoomiyah (standing in charge of disposing the affairs of his creation) is Salaam. His knowledge is Salaam from forgetfulness, mistakes. His richness is Salaam from need.

His decree is Salaam from:

1)    Play

Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) doesn’t decree anything in vain or for play or amusement. He said in Surah Mu’minoon verse 115

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثا ً وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لاَ تُرْجَعُونَ

“Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?”

Every detail in your life is decreed by Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala). The clothes you are wearing, the food you eat, even your movement is decreed by Allah.

You may look for something you need badly but you are not able to find it. After some time, you find it but you don’t need it. So you say, “When I want something I don’t get it and when I don’t want it I get it!”

Why did this happen to you? You need to know any prevention is decreed by Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) for a reason. Watch your tongue, these expressions indicate you are defaming Allah in his decree and Allah is Salaam. If it is good he will give it to you but there is a wisdom in every matter. Allah’s decree is free from play.

2)       Oppression and Injustice.

Allah made people different in their status, ranks, abilities, mentalities, and richness. Why? As a test! To see if you are content with Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) .

Example: The cleaner in the street and the imam in the masjid. There is a big difference between those two. Why did Allah make them different? Both of them are tested in their jobs. Allah is watching their hearts.

The cleaner is cleaning in front of big houses, fancy cars, rich people whom he sees daily. What will be established in his heart? Is he content with Allah or not?

Will the Imam of the masjid think he deserves his job? Will it make him proud or arrogant?

Story: There was a lady who had to go home quickly after work. Her colleague asked her if she could drop her home. She felt heaviness to do so as she would be delayed but she renewed her intention and agreed. On the way home the colleague was talking non-stop. The lady did not hear anything except, “Honey is a good means of healing burns but you need to use it with certainty”.

The lady went home and was praying when she heard her daughter screaming. She ran and saw her daughter spilt hot coffee and had first degree burns. She immediately remembered what her colleague had said about the honey and when her husband came back from the masjid there were no traces of any burn.

The one who has bad thoughts about Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) will reveal it through her tongue during the agonies of death because during that time the person will have no control over her mind and will start to talk with what was established in her heart. We need to be afraid of this moment. We see people dying with good and bad ends because of what was established in their heart.
