Dua said by The Prophet Muhammad (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) in Tahajjud Prayer – Sunday 30th Dec. 2012

Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Auf (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu) reported:

I asked ‘A’ishah: By what words the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) used to begin his prayer when he stood up at night (to offer tahajjud prayer). She said: When he stood up at night, he began his prayer by saying: “O Allaah, Lord of Jibra-eel, Meeka-eel and Israfeel , Creator of the heavens and the Earth, Knower of the seen and the unseen. You judge  between Your slaves regarding in which they differ. Guide me to the truth regarding that in which there is difference, by Your leave. Surely,You guide whomever you will to the straight path.” [Sahih Muslim]

The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) used to invoke Allaah in the Night Prayer with this Du’aa:

“O Allaah, Lord of Jibra-eel, Meeka-eel and Israfeel , Creator of the heavens and the Earth, Knower of the seen and the unseen. You judge  between Your slaves regarding in which they differ. Guide me to the truth regarding that in which there is difference, by Your leave. Surely,You guide whomever you will to the straight path.”

The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) is imploring Allaah with the General Lordship and Special Lordship to the three mightiest Angels who are appointed to the life: Jibreel is appointed the life of the heart because in the revelation is the life of the soul. Mikaeel was appointed to the rain and this is the life of the land, and Israfeel in giving the life to the dead on the Day of Judgement.

And He is imploring Allaah, the Creator of the Heavens and Earth, the All Knower of the Unseen and Manifest things to JUDGE and settle the disputes between His creation in what they dispute.

The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) is asking guidance from Allaah!  This indicates that we should never feel knowledgeable or not in need of guidance. The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) , the most knowledgeable among the creation, is asking for guidance from Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) in his night prayer! This means we need guidance in our life everyday and every moment when we deal with the people etc.

That’s why Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has told us when we say in Surah Fatihah, “Guide us to the straight path,”   we are saying this until our death! We will never stop asking Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) for guidance and this is very important, especially in our life nowadays. We face discrepancies daily so open your night prayer with this du’aa and see how Allaah will guide you to what is best for your affairs!
