Paradise is surrounded with disliked matters while Hell fire is surrounded with desires. Although Paradise is surrounded with disliked matters, Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made gates through which one can reach Paradise. One of these gates is seeking knowledge. The most important knowledge which is obligatory that one should seek and learn is the knowledge about Allaah, our creator.
Why? Because Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) didn’t bring us in this life except for a noble purpose. He didn’t create us to live, eat, drink, have a family and die. This is the life of animals. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) honoured us. He created us to know Him, and if we know Him we will worship Him.
What does worship mean? Many people immediately think of Salat, Hajj, etc. These are acts of worship restricted to times whereas there are acts of worship which are performed with your heart daily, all the time. This action of the heart has no time limit. It is related to the events which Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) decrees upon you. Every time Allaah decrees an event whether it is pleasant or disliked here your heart should react and worship Allaah. There is no time limit for this.
For example, Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) the King had decided a sickness. Why? In order to worship Allaah by His name Ash-Shafi! But as soon as we become sick everyone will come to you telling you what to do about the sickness, and you will take all those , but Allaah only wants one thing from you: To worship Him by His name Ash-Shafi. To ask Allaah to cure you. But we prolong the remedy by asking people and going through the internet. The solution is easy: Go to the King who had decided for you to become sick. To worship Him willingly.
– Your children grew up and you’re left alone in the house, sad and lonely. Why did Allaah decree that for you? In order to worship Him. This is the time of worship and Ibaadah.
Say Alhamdulillah Allaah took away all the obligations so that you can dedicate yourself to Him. How many of us think like this?
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is Al-Jabbar, He will mend your heart. He is Al- Lateef, the most kind. He is the one who will bring joy in your heart. It is not children who bring joy in your heart, it is Allaah.
He makes you laugh and weep. He brings you the means of happiness and the means of sadness. You have to put your trust in Allaah and worship Him by His names. Most of the people don’t understand why Allaah is decreeing certain events upon them. They don’t understand that they have to worship Allaah with their hearts.
Most of the people live in this Dunya and they don’t know who Allaah is. He created us to know Him, and when we know Him we will worship Him.
Contemplate the speech of Allaah to Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) in Surah Taha. When Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) was going back from Madyan after he got married, he got lost. It was a dark wintery night and He didn’t have anything to warm himself with. He saw a light far away and He said to his family,
“.. perhaps I can bring you some burning brand therefrom, or find some guidance at the fire.” (Surah Taha: 10)
He went there, and then Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) spoke to Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) .
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said to Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam):
إِنَّنِي أَنَا اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدْنِي وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِذِكْرِي
“Indeed, I am Allaah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.” (Surah Taha: 14)
The first thing Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) says to Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) is:
إِنَّنِي أَنَا اللَّهُ
” Indeed, I am Allaah..”
This indicates that we have to know Allaah. The name Allaah is His greatest name and it encompasses all the other names. It is an Ism Jami’ah (Comprehensive name).
The second thing Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) tells Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) is:
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا
”There is no deity except Me”.
The meaning of Ilah is the deity which should be worshiped with all your heart, by love and magnification. Your heart should be all for Allaah, not half for your children, or quarter for your husband etc.
Because this heart which should be filled with love of Allaah is now filled with love of people. As soon as they leave us we feel emptiness in our heart. Many people complain they feel empty inside because this heart, instead of being filled with love of Allaah, is filled with love of the Dunya.
When your children ask for something, Allaah comes first. There is no one you love more than Allaah. His love dominates your heart, no one is more important in your life than Allaah.
The third thing Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) says in (20:14):
فَاعْبُدْنِي وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِذِكْرِي
” so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.”
He is the one who deserves to be worshiped because He is the one who is perfect in His attributes. So worship Him. This is the Ibaadah that is required from us. Not only to worship Him with Salat, Siyaam etc. but to worship Him with love, hope, fear, reliance Tawakkul, seeking help and guidance, repentance, and Inaabah, all the time. The heart of the believer works with these acts of worships all the time.
