The Names of Allah: Al-Hakam, Al-Haakim & Al-Hakeem – Part 12 (2 of 2) – Sunday 14th April, 2013
When we see the impact of Allaah’s wisdom in the Qur’aan and in the universe around us it will then be established well in our hearts. We need to contemplate and reflect on the universal signs and in the textual signs.
Allaah’s wisdom in His Creation: Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has created the whole creation in truth, with truth, comprising of truth and leading to the truth.
This means that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has created everything perfectly, for you to see the impact of His wisdom, ability, perfection, etc. such that it will lead you to single Allaah alone in worship (Tawheed).
Surah Ad-Dukhan (44:38 – 40):
We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not
Verily, the Day of Judgement (when Allaah will judge between the creatures) is the time appointed for all of them
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is negating that He had created anything without a purpose. He created everything with truth.
What is the link between these verses?
When Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created all that is in the Heavens and Earth, He created people who do good and who do bad. It is against Allaah’s wisdom that He leave the people without recompense. There will be a Judgement Day to put everyone in their right place. This is because He is Al-Hakeem.
The scholars said regarding the meaning of Allaah’s wisdom in His creation, “Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has brought the creation into existence with the best system and organized it in the perfect way such that He has given every creation its suitable form and gave it its exact measurement. He gave every part of the creation its suitable form and function; you will see no defect or fault in the creation of Allaah”
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said in Surah Mulk (67: 3 – 4):
الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ
Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving;
Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again: “Can you see any rifts?”
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) commands us to look and see if we can find any defect in Allaah’s creation. Our eyes will return to us in failure. If all the minds of the creation gathered to suggest a creation better than Allaah’s creation they will all fail.
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said in Surah Naml (27: 88):
وَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ ۚ صُنْعَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ ۚ إِنَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَفْعَلُونَ
And you will see the mountains and think them solid, but they shall pass away as the passing away of the clouds. The Work of Allaah, Who perfected all things, verily! He is Well-Acquainted with what you do.
Al-Khattabi (Rahimahullaah) said,“The perfection in the creation doesn’t mean only perfecting it in its outward appearance. It includes managing its life, disposing its affairs, the best estimation for it”
People think that everything should be strong, good, beautiful etc. There are among the creation of Allaah weak things like ants, bugs, etc. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) includes everything in the verse, so it means perfecting everything by disposing the arrangement of its life, giving it its estimation. Even the small creation of Allaah indicates Allaah’s great ability, who can create that small creature with that structure.
In Surah Sajdah (32:7):
”Who perfected everything..”
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created everything in its best stature. It doesn’t come from the word beauty, it means perfection. He perfected everything He created. Beauty is not applicable to certain creations of Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) like swine, apes, etc. You can’t say they are beautiful animals. The shaytaan may whisper and try to confuse you. Ahsan doesn’t mean beauty in appearance, it means He who perfected everything He created.
Examples from the Creation of Allaah:
In a valuable book authored by Ibn ul-Qayyim (Rahimahullaah) called, “Miftaahu Daar is-Sa’aadah” (translated in English to, “Men and the Universe”) He said, “By considering the verses of the Qur’an in which Allah urges the servants to reflect on the signs, One will be indeed be led to learn about Allah and His Oneness.” This means that if you reflect on the signs of Allah you will believe in the Oneness of Allah.
This is how important it is to reflect over the creation of Allah. You will see Allah’s perfect might, mercy, grace, ability, etc when you contemplate on the universal signs.
- The creation of ourselves
In Surah Tariq (86:5),
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has commanded us in the Qur’an to look into our own creation.
In Surah Dhariyat (51:21):
And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see?
In Surah Hajj (22:5):
O mankind! If you are in doubt about the Resurrection, then verily! We have created you (i.e. Adam) from dust, then from a Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge i.e. offspring of Adam), then from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood) then from a little lump of flesh, some formed and some unformed (miscarriage), that We may make (it) clear to you (i.e. to show you Our Power and Ability to do what We will). And We cause whom We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term, then We bring you out as infants, then (give you growth) that you may reach your age of full strength. And among you there is he who dies (young), and among you there is he who is brought back to the miserable old age, so that he knows nothing after having known. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down water (rain) on it, it is stirred (to life), it swells and puts forth every lovely kind (of growth).
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) tells us in detail how He created us to show us His ability and strength in creation.
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) tells us the development of the humans stage by stage in detail. This information has been mentioned 1400 years ago to indicate that no one knew this except Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) who inspired it to the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam). This is to show us His power, might and perfect knowledge.
Consider the wisdom embodied in each organ in our body:
- The bones:- Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) determined their different sizes and forms. Their forms are varied in a way it is adopted to its function. Allah didn’t create various sizes and shapes for no reason. They each serve a purpose.
- The eyes
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) put our eyes in the front of the head to work as a pilot for the body. Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made each eye made up of 7 layers, each layer with a certain function. If any layer is missing then the person will be unable to see. The size of the pupil is the size of the grain of a lentil, but with this organ you can see the horizon from the east to the west. The eyelashes and eyelids all protect this small organ. The liquid of the eyes is salty to protect it as well.
- The ears
The shape of the ear is like a shell. It’s curved with many windings so that it receives the sound. It catches incoming air and sounds and funnels it before it goes to the ear canal. There is wax which tastes very bitter to prevent any intruding insects to go inside it.
“and if you count the Blessings of Allah, never will you be able to count them. Verily! Man is indeed an extreme wrong-doer, – a disbeliever (an extreme ingrate, denies Allah’s Blessings by disbelief, and by worshipping others besides Allah, and by disobeying Allah and His Prophet Muhammad Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam.”
[Surat Ibrahim 14:34]
These are just some of the blessings of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala).
Ibn Qayyim (Rahimahullaah) said, “Look at yourself again and again and think who took such good care of you man since you were a fetus in the womb of your mother, in a place no hand can extend to you in help you. Who made the blood of the mother a nutrient for you, who turned the blood into milk in the mother’s breast. After your creation was complete you came out naked, knowing nothing, and Allah is the one who taught you little by little until you became mature. Doesn’t Allah deserve to be singled out with worship, doesn’t he deserved to be singled out with worship?” – [From the Book ”Men and the Universe”]
Allah Al-Hakeem created everything with a wisdom, there is good in everything that Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created, in order that we may love Him and magnify Him, and accordingly worship Him.
