The Names of Allah: Al-Hakam, Al-Haakim & Al-Hakeem – Part 13 (1 of 2) – Sunday 21st April, 2013

Continuation of Allaah’s Wisdom in the Creation:

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created everything in truth, comprising of truth and leading to the truth. When you look at the creation you will see the impact of Allaah’s ability, strength, etc. at the end, leading  you to the truth which is Tawheed. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) orders us many times in the Qur’aan to look into the creation of the sun, the moon, the alternation of the day and night, etc.  Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is drawing our attention to contemplate the signs.

Let us take the moon for Example. Contemplating over the moon, which has different phases, should make us think of our life. We were nothing, then Allaah brings us into existence, then we gradually become strong, and then our strength decreases until we will became nothing again.

All the creation are testifying to the Oneness of Allaah, that He is the creator whose attributes are perfect. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created us with a natural instinct, (Fitrah) which tells us that every invention has an inventor. When you see something perfect like the sun and moon, it is natural that your mind tells you that it has been created by someone and the One who created it must be perfect in His attributes.

Majority of the people don’t believe in Allaah because they do not use their minds to contemplate. If they think and contemplate for a few minutes over the creations of Allaah, for sure they’re thoughts would leave them to believe in Allaah’s Oneness.

How Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) calls us to contemplate in the Qur’aan:-

1)  At the beginning of Surah ar-Room Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) promised to give victory to the Romans over the Persians and He fulfilled His promise.

Verse 7 – 9

”They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc.), and they are heedless of the Hereafter.”

Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allaah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allaah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord.”

Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allaah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves.”

The people don’t know about the promise of Allaah but they know everything about this life. They are heedless about the Aakhirah,  using their minds only for this Dunya. Tafakur will awaken the people from their heedlessness and make them aware of their hereafter. From the beginning of Surat Ar- Rum, Allaah  (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is calling us to contemplate and reflect over the signs. The problem with the disbelievers is that they don’t think or contemplate.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is commanding us to walk in the land and look around us, contemplate over the signs that are around us. Where are the people of Ad and Thamud? They are all gone, but Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) kept their monuments or traces as signs for us to contemplate. They were greater in strength than us but where are they now?!  Who destroyed them?  Allah, The One who caused their death, is stronger. In His hand is life and death. Therefore, He is the one who deserves to be worshipped. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) didn’t oppress them or wrong them. He sent messengers to them but they wronged themselves by not obeying the messengers.

We have to look at every sign, think about it and it should lead us to the truth.

2) Surah Rum Verse 19:

He brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living. And He revives the earth after its death. And thus shall you be brought out (resurrected).

The Sign: Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) tells us that every plant testifies to the truth. The truth is that it was a dead seed in the land. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) sent water, revived it, and it became a tree.  Likewise, Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) will give life to the dead bodies. This sign comprises of the truth of resurrection.

3) Verse 20:

And among His Signs is this, that He created you (Aadam) from dust, and then [Hawwa’ (Eve) from Adam’s rib, and then his offspring from the semen, and], – behold you are human beings scattered!

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is telling us a fact. He created our father Aadam (‘Alayhis-salaam) from dust and Hawwa from his rib. And from them are humans scattered all over the world. The origin of all these humans is dust and when they die they will go back to dust. Then Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) will give them life again and they will be scattered on the Day of Judgement  This sign also comprises of the truth of resurrection.

4) Verse 21:

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.

The sign: This is a blessing that we should thank Allaah for.  Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made us in couples, husbands and wives. There is a relation between them- Love and Mercy.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is the one who had placed love and mercy in their hearts. No one except Him can put the love and affection in their hearts.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) scattered us throughout the world, and he makes relation between the people, but the most wondrous relation is the relation between the husband and wife. You can see as time goes on many relationships may be separated except the marital relationship.
What makes the Marriage so wondrous is that when a man  proposes marriage to a woman in the right Islamic way that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has prescribed and the woman agrees to marry him, as soon as the Qadhi writes the marriage contract , Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala)  puts love in the heart of the man and the woman. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is the One who is putting the love and mercy, no one has the power to do that.

If you believe that no one places the love and mercy in the heart of the husband and the wife then this should make you believe La ilaaha il Allah. Your heart should be only attached to Allaah. If a conflict happens between you and your spouse  you should run to Allaah and not anybody else because it is in Allaah’s hand to bring the love of the husband back to you.

Knowing this will make you always stand at the gate of Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala), asking Him to reform your relationship with your husband. When everything between the two spouses is going fine they should thank Allaah, not their intelligence, for keeping their relationship.

This sign should also make you honour the Shari’ah of Allaah. All the wisdom is in the Shari’ah of Allaah, not in the law of Shaytaan.

This is what you will reach to when you contemplate on this Ayah.

5) Verse 22:

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge.

Every sign makes you glorify Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala). This is what Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) wants from us, to single Him out with worship.

The sign: The creation of the Heavens and the Earth; the different colours and languages.

The truth it comprises of:  The ability of Allah.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made the Arabs speak Arabic, the Indians speak Hindi, etc. Who taught the first man the language? Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala). There are about 13,000 languages in the earth. Who taught us these languages?

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said in Surat  Ar- Rahman Verse 4:

عَلَّمَهُ الْبَيَانَ

He taught him eloquent speech.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) taught man the language and how to express himself in words such that others can understand him. He made it easy for the people to communicate with each other. Don’t think you teach your children speech, it is Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) making your children speak.  It shows you that Allaah is All- Able, Merciful, Strong, Kind, etc.

The truth it leads us to:  Your heart should be attached to Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) and glorify Allaah.

6) Verse 23:

And among His Signs is the sleep that you take by night and by day, and your seeking of His Bounty. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who listen.

Sleeping is a sign from Allaah. You cannot resist sleeping. You may be strong and healthy but you have to sleep. It overpowers you either in the day or night. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is the One who makes us sleep in the day and night.

When we contemplate we should thank Allaah for His blessings and we should attach our hearts to Him. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is showing these signs to increase us in faith, especially in His name Al-Hakeem.  He puts things in the right place and time. You sleep at a certain time in the night and awaken in the morning.

The verse ended with, ‘for people who listen’’Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) talks about sleeping at night. At night your sense of  hearing will become stronger because everything is quiet; while during the day your sight will be stronger. This end is suitable for the night and Allaah knows best.

All these verses tell us that no one created these for us except Allaah. They are created in truth, comprising of truth and leading to the truth. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) didn’t create anything in vain. If you think considerably, every sign will lead you to increase your faith in Allaah.

Ibn Qayyim  (Rahimahullaah) said, “Every sign comprises of truth. Contemplate in the creation of the Heavens. Look repeatedly at the sky.”

The Qur’aan helps us focus on great signs of Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala), so we have no excuse of not knowing Him.
