The Names of Allaah: Al-Hakam, Al-Haakim & Al-Hakeem – Part 15 (2 of 2) – Sunday 5th May, 2013
Allaah’s wisdom in His creation
Everything in the universe tells us that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) didn’t create anything except with truth, in truth testifying to the truth, which means they testify that, ‘There is No deity worthy of worship except Allaah’. The truth that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) is telling us, through His creation, is that He has Perfect Attributes in order for us to know Him, love Him, magnify (At- Ta’leel) Him, and deify Him (At- Tahleel).
The problem with most of the people is that they don’t think. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) commanded us in Surah Rum to think in order to reach the conclusion that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) created everything in truth and not in play, but most of the people are heedless.
In Surah Rum verse 50:
Look then at the effects (results) of Allaah’s Mercy, how He revives the earth after its death. Verily! That (Allaah) Who revived the earth after its death shall indeed raise the dead (on the Day of Resurrection), and He is Able to do all things.
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) commands us to see. How many of us sees the impact of Allaah’s attributes in the creation? We must remember that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) will ask us about every verse in the Qur’aan, whether or not we acted upon it.
Surah Az- Zukhruf Verse 44:
“And verily, this (the Qur’aan) is indeed a Reminder for you (O Muhammad Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and your people (Quraish people, or your followers), and you will be questioned (about it).”
Surah Al- Ankabut verse 41- 44:
“The likeness of those who take Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) other than Allaah is as the likeness of a spider, who builds (for itself) a house, but verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider’s house; if they but knew.”
In this verse Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has set a parable to emphasize something important. The house of the spider is very weak, thin, and small but the spider thinks he can protect itself in it. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) compares the Mushrikeen, who took others than Allaah as a protector or waliyy (guardian), to the spider. Just like how the spider web cannot protect the spider, those who are taken as partners with Allaah are of no benefit to the mushrikeen.
Ibn Kathir (Rahimahullah) said, referring to the verse: ”This is how Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) described the idolaters in their reverence of gods besides Him- turning to them to help and provide for them, and turning to them in times of difficulties. In this regard they were like this parable of the spider’s house, because by clinging to these gods they were like a person who holds on to a spider’s web and does not gain any benefit from that. If they knew this, they would not take any protectors besides Allaah. This is unlike the Muslim believer whose heart is devoted to Allaah, yet he still does righteous deeds and follows the Laws of Allaah. For he has grasped the most trustworthy handle that will never break because it is so strong and firm.” [Tafser Ibn Kathir]
Our hearts should be attached to Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala), the one who created the heavens and earth in truth. Only the believers know this fact.
Surah Baqarah verse 163 and 164:
And your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God – Allaah), La ilaha illa Huwa (there is none who has the right to be worshiped but He), the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allaah sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs, etc.) for people of understanding.
When you contemplate in Allaah’s creation you will see the impact of Allaah’s attributes such that you will love Allaah and magnify Him hence deifying Him. You will take Him as your Ilaah.
The solution for shirk and the Mushrikeen is to contemplate the creation of the Heavens and the Earth and the alternation of the day and the night so they will reach to the conclusion that:
Laa ilaha illa Allaah. (There is No deity worthy of worship except Allaah)
Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) describes ‘the people of understanding‘ in
Surah Aal-Imran Verse 190:
”Verily! In the creation of the Heavens and the Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.”
One of their descriptions is that they contemplate in the creation of the Heavens. After they contemplated and thought considerably they reached to a conclusion that Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, no one is like Allaah. They reached to the truth that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala), who had created everything with wisdom, perfected it and placed everything in its right place, will not equalize between the one who says La ilaaha illa Allaah and the one who does not since He is Al-Hakeem. He will put the Believer in Paradise and the Disbeliever in Hell-Fire. Therefore, they asked Allah to save them from the Hell fire.
When we contemplate in this manner we will also reach to the conclusion that Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) will not equalize between the good doer and the evil doer. The same meaning is mentioned in Surah al Jathiya Verse 21, 23:
Or do those who earn evil deeds think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah, Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, in their present life and after their death? Worst is the judgement that they make.
And Allaah has created the heavens and the earth with truth, in order that each person may be recompensed what he has earned, and they will not be wronged.
Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allaah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allaah? Will you not then remember?
عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ (‘Ala’ ilm) can take two meanings :
1. Either Allaah knows this person is preferring his desire over Allaah’s command or,
2. That this person has knowledge that what he is doing is wrong but he refuses to accept.
Those people who are doing wrong think Allaah will equalize between the evil doer and the good doer, but Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) mentioned that He is the one who created the Heavens and the Earth in truth ( which is that He has the perfect wisdom), so it is not possible that He will equalize the evil doer with the good doer.
