Who are the People of Emaan? – Sunday 6th Muharram,1435 (10th November, 2013)
One of the greatest blessings Allah has bestowed upon us is Emaan. Even if the slave has nothing but Emaan, it will be enough for him to save him from the Hell fire.
For if he has Emaan, it will save him from the Hellfire and wash away his sins.
Who are the people of Emaan? Al Emaan is what is established in the heart and proved by the limbs. What is established in your heart about belief in the angels and messengers, manifests through the actions of the tongue and limbs etc.
What is the issue with most of us? We focus on the actions only. What are the conditions that will make us establish Emaan?
The Emaan about the Jinn: Who are the jinn? They are like us humans. They have families, they eat etc., but one difference is that they are invisible.
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said in Surat Al-Jinn verse 1,
قل اوحي الي انه استمع نفر من الجن فقالوا انا سمعنا قرانا عجبا
Say (O Muhammad, Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam): “It has been revealed to me that a group (from three to ten in number) of jinn listened (to this Qur’aan). They said: ‘Verily! We have heard a wonderful Recital (this Qur’aan)!
These jinn were so pure that they saw the Qur’aan guiding to the right path. How did they know? When they heard that the Qur’aan forbids the evil and encourages good.
When they heard the Qur’aan, what were their reactions? They believed. They said they will never associate any partners with Allah. Their actions followed their Emaan.
In Surat Al-Jinn verse 3, Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said:
وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا
‘And exalted be the Majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife, nor a son (or offspring or children).
Then they magnified Allah.
Allah is showing us how the jinn were astray, and when they heard the Qur’aan, they declared Allah has no son or partner.
How many of us read the Qur’aan have this kind of belief in our hearts?
What caused them to believe in the Qur’aan? They read about Allah’s attributes and His actions, which made them to believe immediately. Ibn Taymiyyah (Rahimahullaah) said this is the result of beneficial belief.
Imitation belief is when children see their parents and their friends praying, fasting etc. and they just follow without any knowledge. They know their parents are Muslims, so they call themselves Muslims without knowledge.
The true belief cannot exist except with knowledge of Allah, Azza wa Jal. You have to learn about Allah’s names, Allah’s attributes and Allah’s actions from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah
Who is the believer?
He is the one who hears the news from the Qur’aan, then believes. Belief is established in his heart, therefore actions will follow.
When he is walking on this earth, his heart is attached to the One in the Heavens.
The believer is not afraid of the future, she isn’t afraid of losing anyone. Her heart is with Allah.
This is the Mu’wahid.
Allah said in Surat An-Nisā’ verse 136:
O you who believe! Believe in Allah, and His Messenger (Muhammad, Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), and the Book (the Qur’aan) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him), and whosoever disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away.
Allah is commanding us to reform our Emaan, check our sincerity, avoid sins, and repent. The first thing He wants us to do is have firm belief in Him.
We then have to increase our Emaan. How? By acquiring knowledge about Allah.
We then have to stay firm forever till our last day.
In order to correct your Emaan, in order to increase your Emaan, read the Qur’aan and understand it.
