Means of Expiation of Sins through the Guidance shown by the Prophet (Salla Allaahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam)

The Prophet  (Salla Allaahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) said ; There is no one on the earth who says the following statement

La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar, wa la Hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is No God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, There is no might or any power Except with Allah) But his sins will be forgiven even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.”- Saheeh al-Jamie no. 5636

Sahl bin Mu’adh bin Anas  narrated from his father that:

The Messenger of Allah (Salla-Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever eats food and then says:

الحمدُ للهِ الّذي أطْعَمَنِي هذا الطَّعامَ ، ورَزَقَنِيهِ من غيرِ حولٍ مِنِّي ولا قُوَّةٍ

(Al-Hamdulillah, Alladhi At’amani Haathat-Ta’aam Wa Razaqanihi Min Ghayri Hawlin Minni, Wa Laa Quwwatin)‘All praise is due to Allah who fed me this and granted it as provision to me, without any effort from me nor power,’ his past sins shall be forgiven.” – Al-Albaani graded it Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamie no. 6086

Abu Hurairah (Radia Allahu ‘anhu) narrated that :

The Messenger of Allah (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever says:

سُبْحان الله وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Subhan Allah, Wa Bihamdih

‘Glory is to Allah, and with His Praise’ one hundred times, his sins are forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea.” (Muslim)

  • (c) “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Great), and then complete the hundred by saying,

“La Ilaha  Illa Allah, Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Lahu Al-Mulk Wa Lahu Al-Hamd, Wa Huwa ‘Ala Kull Shay’in Qadeer”. His sins will be forgiven even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.”[Muslim]

‘Ash-hadu an laa ilaha illallah Wah-dahu laa shareeka Lahu; wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu, radhitu Billaahi Rabban, wa bi Muhammadin Rasulan, wa bil Islami Deenan

I testify that there is no true god except Allah Alone; He has no partners and that Muhammad (Salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is His slave and Messenger; I am content with Allah as my Rubb, with Muhammad as my Messenger and with Islam as my Deen],’ Allaah forgives him all his past sins.” [Muslim].

Wiping your sins by asking forgiveness

“Whoever says,

‘Astaghfirullaah al-lathee laa ilaaha illa huwa, al-Hayyul Qayyum wa atubu ilayh’

‘I ask forgiveness from Allah the One whom there is no deity worthy of worship except He, the Ever-Living and Sustainer (the Eternal) and I repent to Him.’ He will be forgiven even if his sin is fleeing from the battlefield [a major sin].” [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3577; Abu Dawood, 1517, authenticated by al-Albaani in Mishkaat al-Masaabih no. 2292]
