The month of Dhul Qa’dah is upon us. Here are some reminders to keep in mind during the Sacred months. 🌙
As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu dear readers!
We say Alhamdulillah for having reached the sacred month of Dhul-Qa’dah. We remind ourselves and you on some important points to keep in mind during these Sacred months.
Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said in Surat at-Tawbah (9:36):
“Verily the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth, of them four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein.”
The Sunnah specified these four sacred months, as reported by al-Bukhari and narrated by Abu Bakrah (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu), that the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Time has come back to its original state which it had when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is twelve months, four of which are sacred, three of them are in succession: Dhul-Qa’dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and (the fourth being) Rajab Mudar (named after the tribe of Mudar as they used to respect this month) which is between Jumadath-Thaniyah and Sha’ban.”
These months are called sacred to emphasize:
1- Their great sanctity (sacredness) and great rights with Allah.
2- The prohibition of committing sins in them because Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) said:
“So wrong not yourselves therein,”
Meaning during these sacred months, for sinning in them is worse than sinning in other months.
🔸What is our belief regarding the sacred months?
1- Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made sinning in them greater than any other month.
2- On the other hand, He (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made the reward for good deeds greater and multiplied, and this applies to every noble, meritorious (virtuous) time, place, etc…
3- We should believe that Allah is All-Wise (Hakeem) in choosing certain months over other months. What is required from us is acceptance and submission.
🔸What is the meaning of sinning in them being greater than any other month?
It means that the punishment for it is very great. The evidence for that is in surat al-Baqarah (2:217).
“They ask you about the sacred month – about fighting therein. Say, “Fighting therein is great [sin], but averting [people] from the way of Allah and disbelief in Him and [preventing access to] al-Masjid al-Haram and the expulsion of its people therefrom are greater [evil] in the sight of Allah . And fitnah is greater than killing.” And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able. And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever – for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.”
🔸What is the meaning of the reward being multiplied?
It means, as if one performed the good deeds many times.
🔸What is required from the person who enters the sacred month ?
“Don’t wrong yourselves therein.”
Imam Tabari said: It means, do not disobey Allah therein, by committing sins or making lawful whatever Allah has made unlawful, so you will earn what causes the wrath of Allah upon yourselves.
Ibn Zaid said, ‘Don’t wrong yourselves therein,’ means by committing sins and abandoning His obedience.’” [Tafsir at-Tabari]
Watch your heart, Avoid sins, Repent to Allah and Bear in mind that the sins vary in their greatness according to what is established in the heart.
Don’t belittle the minor sins. The minor sins will become major by persisting in committing them.
When performing all the acts of worship, don’t let your heart turn from Allah to others, and seek help from Allah and Hope for the reward from him.
