Month of Rajab’s 5 days of fasting – A Great Opportunity!

The Sacred month of Rajab is here and we have an excellent fasting opportunity this week.

Jareer ibn ‘Abdullaah (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Fasting three days of each month is fasting for a lifetime, and ayaam al-beed are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.

Preparing for Ramadan – Heart & Soul (Part 3)

We praise Allah abundantly for allowing us to reach the month of Sha’ban; a month which most people do not pay attention to.

Usamah bin Zaid (Radia-Allahu ‘anhu) said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting any month as much as Sha’ban.’ He said: ‘That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting.“‘ [An-Nasaa’i]

Because the month of Sha’ban falls between the month of Rajab (which is a sacred month) and the month of Ramadan (which is a great month of fasting), people are occupied with these two months and neglect Sha’ban. Read the rest of this entry

The Prophet,(sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), said:

“For fasting the day of ‘Ashura, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.” [Reported by Muslim, 1976]

Don’t forget to observe Sawm on the day preceding Ashura which is Taasu’a (9th of Muharram) or succeeding it (the 11th of Muharram) to be different from the Jews.

Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram (i.e. along with the tenth day.).”[Muslim]

Fasting in the Month of Muharram & verdict on singling out Saturday for Fasting.

Abu Hurairah (Radia Allaahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said,

“The Best month for observing fasting next after Ramadan is the month of Allah, the Muharram, and the best Salaat next after the prescribed Salaat is Salaat at night (Tahajjud prayers).” [Muslim]

Muharram is one of the Sacred Months. This Hadith points out that fasting in the month of Muharram is better than any other month of the year after Ramadan.

The Most stressed days for fasting is ‘Ashoura (the 10th of Muharram).

He (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) was asked about observing fast on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied,

“It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year.” [Muslim]

And He (Salla Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:

“If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram.” [Muslim] Read the rest of this entry
