The Importance of Seeking Knowledge (From Surat Al-Fatiha)

It is very important to purify our intentions, especially before attending an assembly of acquiring knowledge. Seeking knowledge is one of the most beloved deeds to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah makes the way to Jannah easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge.” [Muslim]

If everyone understood the meaning of Al-Fatihah, which Allah opened the Qur’an – His Speech – with, and which He commanded us to recite in our obligatory prayers, they would know the importance of acquiring knowledge.

The Names of Allah: Al-Hakam, Al-Haakim, Al-Hakeem – Part 10 (3 of 3) – Sunday 20th January, 2013

We will continue where we left off in our previous post and we will continue with Surah Al-Ma’idah with the 10th call to the believers.

The 10th call to the believers is in Verse 87:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُحَرِّمُوا طَيِّبَاتِ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ

O you who believe! Make not unlawful the Taiyyibaat (all that is good as regards foods, things, deeds, beliefs, persons, etc.) which Allaah has made lawful to you, and transgress not. Verily, Allaah does not like the transgressors.

Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) made many things lawful to us, Don’t make it prohibited on yourself. In the beginning of the Surah Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) talks about the opposite. This means that we are not supposed to make the lawful, unlawful and the unlawful, lawful. This is the RIGHT of Allaah. Only Allaah, Al Hakam, is the One who makes things impermissible and permissible. We have to be careful; otherwise we will be considered transgressors. Read the rest of this entry

The Names of Allah: Al-Hakam, Al-Haakim & Al-Hakeem – Part 10 (2 of 3) – Sunday 20th January, 2013

In our previous post we ended by discussing what is Hasad and how can one check oneself from the sickness of Hasad. In this post we will continue on the discussion of the remedy for Hasad .

What is the remedy for this problem?

  1. Practice Taqwa.
  2. Accept Allaah’s Hukm. Do not question it.
  3. Remember Allaah’s favours upon you. Allaah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala) has given everyone the gate of nearness to Him.

Transgression is the result of envy.

The story starts with “و(and). It is as if this story if linked with the previous story. This means there is a similarity between this story and the story of Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam).

What is The Relation Between these Two Stories?

  1. Both broke the covenant by not accepting Allaah’s Hukm. Bani Israel refused to enter Palestine and a brother killed his sibling due to his envy.
  2. After transgressing, they dared to commit another sin. After Bani Israel refused to enter Palestine, they misbehaved and told Musa (‘Alayhis-salaam) to go with His Lord and fight.  After not accepting the Hukm, one brother killed another brother [story of Adam].
  3. There is a contrasting relationship. In the story of Bani Israel there is dispraise going back and in the story of Adam there is dispraise going forward (by killing his brother).

We concluded all these relations because of the letter و . Therefore when you read the Qur’aan do not overlook a single letter. Each letter has a meaning and is there for a wisdom. Read the rest of this entry

2)                  The Story of the Sons of Adam

3)                  The Story of Musa
