And Allah mentioned that His Knowledge encompasses the secrets, the open, the unseen, and the seen.
Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله said that the heart is always concerned and intending to do things. It either is preoccupied with intending good, or preoccupied with intending evil.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَتَبَ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ، ثُمَّ بَيَّنَ ذَلِكَ
“Allah ordered (the appointed angels over you) that the good and the bad deeds be written, and He then showed (the way) how (to write).
فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً،
If somebody intends to do a good deed and he does not do it, then Allah will write for him a full good deed (in his account with Him);
e.g. He wants to perform ablution to recite the Quran. If he does not do it, regardless if it is intentional or unintentional, it will be written as a good deed for him.
فَإِنْ هُوَ هَمَّ بِهَا فَعَمِلَهَا كَتَبَهَا اللَّهُ لَهُ عِنْدَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ إِلَى أَضْعَافٍ كَثِيرَةٍ،
and if he intends to do a good deed and actually did it, then Allah will write for him (in his account) with Him (its reward equal) from ten to seven hundred times to many more times:
The difference in reward is according to how much sincerity the person has and how much he follows the Sunnah. Ibn Othaimeen رحمه الله said that the more sincere a person is, and the more he follows the Sunnah, the more his reward will be. The less his sincerity, the less he follows the Sunnah, the less reward he will get. This is why the reward varies between people, although they may have performed the same deed. Although majority of the Muslims know the meaning of the Name of Allah العليم, the impact of believing in it is very weak in our lives. This Name implies the Attribute of العلم (Knowledge).
Knowledge is a common attribute between the creation and Allah. How can we practice Tawheed with regards to it? To single Allah’s Knowledge out with Perfection. In order to do so, we need to compare our knowledge with Allah’s Knowledge.
The knowledge of humans is preceded with ignorance and is followed with forgetfulness. Allah’s knowledge is perfect; it is neither preceded with ignorance, nor followed with forgetfulness..
Allah’s Knowledge is vast, it comprehends everything, it surrounds everything. Nothing escapes from Allah’s Knowledge, no matter how min it may be. Allah therefore usually mentions “إحاطة علمه” with the plots of the disbelievers and hypocrites. Console your heart; no matter how much they are plotting, Allah is there for you.
