Means which will aid a person in Seeking Knowledge (Part 3)

The Prophet said:

من يرد الله به خيرا يفقه في الدين

If Allaah wills good for a person He bestows comprehension of the Religion upon him.” [Agreed Upon]

Religious knowledge has many merits. In order to attain these merits, we have to follow the correct means of acquiring knowledge. In his book “The Book of Knowledge – “كتاب العلم“, Ibn ‘Uthaimeen (رحمه الله) mentioned some means which will help the student of knowledge in his seeking knowledge.

3- Memorization (Al-Hifdhالحفظ )

It is required for the student of knowledge to be keen on studying and learning accurately, either by memorizing the knowledge by heart or by writing it down. This is due to the forgetful nature of the human being. If one does not take care of reviewing and memorizing the knowledge, it will be lost and forgotten. Read the rest of this entry

Means which will aid a person in Seeking Knowledge (Part 2)

All the Scholars are in consensus in regards: there is nothing better than acquiring knowledge to come close to Allaah. It is أجل العبادات Ajal Ebadah (The loftiest act of worship).

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet ﷺ  said:

Whoever comes to this mosque of mine, and only comes for a good purpose, such as to learn or to teach, his status is like that of one who fights in Jihaad in the Cause of Allaah. Whoever comes for any other purpose, his status is that of a man who is keeping an eye on other people’s property. [Ibn Maajah]

This Hadeeth emphasizes the importance of knowledge. It is of the same level as Jihaad in the Way of Allaah, as Allaah says in Surat at-Tawbah [9:122]:

“And it is not (proper) for the believers to go out to fight (Jihaad) all together. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in (Islamic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of evil).”

In our previous post, we mentioned the first means – Taqwa, which will aid a person in seeking knowledge.

In this post, we present the second means which will aid a person in seeking knowledge:  Read the rest of this entry

Means which will aid a person in Seeking Knowledge (Part 1)

Acquiring knowledge is one of the noblest acts of worship with which one can draw nearer to Allaah. Allaah made knowledge a counterpart to Jihaad in Surat at-Tawbah [9:122]:

“And it is not (proper) for the believers to go out to fight (Jihaad) all together. Of every troop of them, a party only (i.e. some of them) should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may receive instructions in (Islamic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of evil).”

The Prophet said:

من يرد الله به خيرًا يفقه في الدين

If Allaah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the Religion (I.e. understand the Qur’an and Sunnah.” [Al-Bukhaari]

So if you see that Allaah (Ta’ala) has opened the gates of understanding the Religion for you, then receive the glad tidings that Allaah wants good for you. This is a blessing from Allaah for certain people whom He chooses; not just for anyone. Read the rest of this entry
